August is National Wellness Month, which makes now the perfect time to prioritize self-care. At Level, we know the benefits of a holistic approach to wellness and focus on the entire ecosystem of mind, body, beauty, nutrition, and community. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to mix it up a little, here are a few practices you can implement into your daily routine to create new healthy habits that will last a lifetime.
Take a break from work. PTO exists for a reason, and it’s not to make companies look good. Yet, too many employees don’t use the time off they earn. According to a 2025 survey, “nearly one-quarter (23%) of U.S. workers didn’t take a single vacation day over the past year.” That time is yours. Take a vacation (or staycation). Take a random Tuesday off. If you’re a manager, make sure you’re encouraging your team to use their PTO. Take a break yourself and set a good example. And no checking email or contacting people on their days off. The work will still be there when you return. And you’ll be refreshed enough to tackle it.
Start a meditation practice. If sitting still doesn’t help clear your mind, check out walking meditations to care for your mind and body. Apps like Pilgrim and Rewyld offer a great place to start putting one foot in front of the other. Like Ferris Bueller says, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
Limit your screen time. This one is hard for many people. After all, screens are part of daily life now—at work and at home. Right now, you’re reading this on a screen. So, don’t think of it as all or nothing. Reducing your screen time doesn’t mean eliminating it. Put the phone down while you watch tv or a movie and get lost in a story. Keep the phone in your pocket when out with friends and truly be present in the moment.
Ease into self-care with a focus on consistent, quality sleep. You know you’re supposed to get eight hours of sleep each night, but it can be hard to wind down after a busy day and get the rest you need. Create a sleep routine that includes going to bed and waking up at the same time every day. And keep those electronic devices like tvs and phones out of the bedroom.
Get your body moving. Physical health includes strength training, aerobics, flexibility, and balance. So, walk, run, swim, bike, dance, stretch, lift weights, practice yoga. The more active you are, the more energy you’ll have, and the better you’ll sleep.
Take your physical wellness to the next level and join a gym or get a physical trainer, sign up for a weekly class, register and train for a marathon, or start a hiking challenge.
Sunscreen isn’t just for a day at the beach. Regular sun exposure can cause wrinkles, age spots, and even increase the risk of skin cancer. Protect your skin with a sunscreen of 30+ SPF any time you’re out in the sun. Make it an easy part of your daily skincare routine with a moisturizer that contains SPF.
Schedule a personalized aesthetics consultation appointment to discuss your goals, assess facial features, and create a customized treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Indulge in an exclusive Level Facial, an elevated 60-minute experience designed to transform and renew your skin at the highest level. This results-driven facial integrates advanced technologies with medical-grade formulations to deliver visible, lasting improvements in tone, texture, and radiance. Each step of the treatment is thoughtfully curated by your aesthetician, resulting in balanced, restored, and beautifully luminous skin.
Start the day with a glass of water. The adage is that we should drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day. But the amount of water best for you varies from person to person, and includes factors like age, health, activity, and environment.
Take advantage of seasonal fruits and vegetables for a new, healthy recipe. A stir fry of rice or noodles, protein, and veggies like peppers, mushrooms, squash is a colorful (and flavorful) meal. This easy-to-make stir fry is done in just 20 minutes.
Make an appointment with a nutritionist, take a healthy cooking class, or ask your doctor about supplements. Even simply eating fish instead of red meat once or twice a week makes an impact.
Participate in hobbies or fun activities at least once a week. You can do this solo or with friends. Hobbies like gardening and birding have the added benefit of being outdoors. Puzzles and cards are great for indoor, low-key fun. Activities like dancing, writing, playing an instrument, or painting exercise your creativity. Reading and knitting can be done anywhere.
Schedule a regular get-together with friends for a book club, movie or game night, or a happy hour. Be adventurous and join a group, class, or team to meet people you don’t already know.
In 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) Commission on Social Connection released a global report that stated, “1 in 6 people worldwide is affected by loneliness, with significant impacts on health and well-being.” At a time when we’re so digitally connected through our devices, more people are feeling withdrawn and isolated. Say yes to that invitation. Better yet, bring a friend and fight loneliness together!
